Treatment of Skin Rashes

Skin that is healthy acts as a barrier between the harsh environments on the outside and the inside of the body. An occurrence of a rash is a sign of unhealthy skin. A rash appears as a red bump and is painful and itchy. Some cause irritation and are scaly too. A mere wash of the skin could get rid of some rashes while some require a lot more to treat them. It is important to visit a doctor if it does not disappear or is in a delicate part of the body.

There are many causes of rashes. Some of them occur due to exposure to certain allergens. This is usually known as contact dermatitis. Dermatitis is not usually serious. However, it causes a lot of irritation on the skin. Some of the substances that cause contact dermatitis include fabrics or jewelry, latex, new appliances, toys or tools, lotions, cosmetics, perfumes, shampoos, detergents and soaps, plants containing poisons such as sumac, oak and poison ivy. People who frequently come into contact with rubber are prone to get affected by it often. This includes persons working in the rubber industries and health care workers. Viral, bacterial and fungal infections also cause rashes. They include STDs, herpes, yeast infections and impetigo. Exposure to a parasite or insect such as a scabies mite could also cause a rash.

Development of a rash could be an indication of a certain skin condition like seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema and acne. Other causes include varying weather conditions and stress caused by change in emotions. Such emotions include embarrassment and frustration. Other rashes are as a result of certain medications. For example the toxic epidermal necrolysis rash occurs due to taking of drugs containing sulfur. Some of the skin rashes treatment includes:

One could choose to wash the rash using a mild soap and water. However, it is important to wash the soap thoroughly without rubbing the affected area. This is because rubbing it causes an irritation on the skin. It is important to dry off the air rash by exposing it to the environment.

Applying an ointment like olive oil or Aloe Vera is important as it helps in moisturizing skin that is dry. Aloe Vera helps in soothing irritated and relieving swelling on the skin. One cuts it open and applies the gooey gel directly on the affected area. Any remains of the extract can be stored in a tight fit container in the refrigerator. Cod liver oil or and vitamin E also assists in healing the rash.

A mixture of pepper, salt, garlic cloves and basil leaves could also be applied on the rash. Basil leaves contain anti- itch compounds like thymol and camphor. One uses the leaves when properly crushed.

Avenanthramides are compounds contained in oatmeal and help in stopping inflammation on the skin. It mostly helps in treating large rashes especially those caused by chicken pox. Chicken pox affects the whole body and is itchy too. You mix the oatmeal with some warm water before taking a bath.

Chamomile tea that has been left to cool also treats rashes. This is through applying it on the rash. Then allow the rash to dry.

Choose the right method to treat a rash.
